Do I need to know Spanish? No. While it is helpful to know Spanish to be able to communicate with locals, our president is fluent in English. He will make you useful. And you will learn Spanish anyway. Immersion is the best way to learn a language!
How long of a time-commitment is volunteering? To be useful, we request that you stay with us for a minimum of 15 days. We have had volunteers stay with us for as long as 3 months. We can work with your schedule, but please remember that the duration of your stay is important to our success.
Should I choose the FREE volunteering or the PREMIUM volunteering program? If you can afford it, definitely go with our premium program. This will both benefit you and us greatly. As part of the premium program, you will become an integral part of our community by sharing meals and housing. You will also be giving us funds we desperately need to fully construct a whole eco-house. However, both programs are very rewarding.
I want to help in a specific way or by using a specific skill I have. Can I design my own volunteer program? If you have a specific idea of how you want to help, we would love to hear it. We are always looking for skilled and creative volunteers. Please let us know your ideas when you contact us to become a volunteer.
Am I able to bring a friend? Yes, the more people the merrier! But please make sure your friend is also dedicated. Your friend should write us separately with their own informal application.
Can I count helping Wamua Wanile towards volunteer hours? Can you provide me a reference? Yes. If you are a decent help to us, we will be happy to pay the favor forward.
